Electrical Propulsion Engines are usualy used for in space aplications due to its lack in Thrust (low massflow) but high deltaV (high efficiency). Different from Chemical Propulsion, the energy (electrical) is externally added, heating the fuel and accelerating it via expansion usually in a nozzle.

Beschreibung

o There are 3 different types of acceleration :

• Thermal (e.g. Resistorjets)

• Electrostatic (e.g. Ion engines)

• Electromagnetic (e.g,. Magneto-Plasma-Dynamic engines)

o For all electric propulsion engines are valid:

• The energy source is separated from the fuel

• The fuel will recieve energy from a separated system (electricity)
